  • Versatile triple 50-megapixel camera system.
  • Functional and innovative 3-inch, 120Hz rear display.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max stands out as a large, feature-loaded smartphone that effectively maximizes its design and specifications. It is powered by the most powerful chip of the year, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, and includes a massive 7500 mAh silicon carbon battery with remarkable 22.5W reverse wireless charging capabilities. The phone also boasts triple 50MP cameras and an innovative, highly functional 3-inch, 1000-nit, 120Hz rear screen. Its overall design and competitive pricing position it as a truly exceptional device and a strong contender for the best big phone of the year.
This is a really big phone that is really loaded with features.
just a treat to use but also hilarious that they just copied the name and then did a bunch of oneuping. They went up the design, they went up the battery, they went up the power, and they add this display on the back, which is actually super functional and turned out to be an incredible design choice. [...] really, really good phone, and they undercut the price, by the way.

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max "Real Review" - Almost Perfect, But.....

Pros

  • Excellent camera performance, especially with the rear display viewfinder.
  • Robust gaming and overall performance.
  • "Super smooth" 120 Hz main display.
  • Fast wired charging with clear indicators.
  • Versatile secondary rear display for calls and camera functionality.

Cons

  • Secondary rear display consumes significant battery.
  • Limited notification and app integration on the rear display for US users.
  • Rear display can be laggy when controlling music.
  • Wireless charging is not fast and lacks progress display.
  • Camera performance was slightly inferior to a competitor in one comparison.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is a compelling device, considered a significant upgrade from its predecessor, largely due to its innovative secondary rear display and enhanced processor. This rear display notably improves the camera experience by acting as a viewfinder, enabling high-quality selfies and vlogging, and offers convenient features like displaying incoming calls.

While its gaming performance is robust and the main display is a "super smooth" 120 Hz panel, the current Chinese version of the rear display has significant software limitations for US users regarding notifications and third-party app integration. Despite a large battery, the rear display contributes to higher power consumption, and wireless charging is not fast, but its potential is high, earning it a positive recommendation.

If you got the Xiaomi 15 Pro, should you upgrade and get the 17 Pro Max? And the answer is yes. Okay. Yes. [...] This is a huge difference.
the Chinese version as is, I'd give this a double major go, leaning toward a triple major go because like I said, when I took those photos on the gym, it was so it was it was so cool being able to use my rear finder knowing that I'm taking selfies. That was dope. [...] That the camera and the phone calls alone make the back worth it for me.

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max review

Pros

  • Excellent battery life
  • Super-fast 100W wired charging
  • Outstanding main LTPO OLED display
  • Unique and functional secondary LTPO OLED screen
  • Amazing stereo speakers with high-quality audio
  • Powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset

Cons

  • Telephoto camera often produces blurry photos
  • Ultrawide camera lacks detail and sharpness in low light
  • Main camera post-processing can oversaturate colors
  • Chipset performance does not fully reach its potential
  • Significant thermal throttling under prolonged CPU stress

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is a well-rounded flagship that excels in many areas, offering solid build quality, excellent main and unique secondary displays, and amazing speakers. It boasts a cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, superb battery life, and super-fast charging.

While the main camera performs well, the overall camera system, particularly the telephoto and ultrawide, does not quite match top competitors. Despite this, for users not prioritizing the absolute best camera phone, it is a highly recommended and valuable device, even considered worth gray importing.

It ticks a lot of boxes with its solid build quality, amazing speakers, and great displays, including that unique second screen.
But if that's not your priority, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is a well-rounded flagship that's really worth its salt. So much so that it might be one of the few phones worth gray importing if you don't want to wait around and see if there's going to be a global version.

However, we have a screen on the back. However, 7500 mAh battery. However, absolute top tier, latest Snapdragon, which you can geekbench it if you want. I mean, it's arguably the fastest chip, period. big storage options, huge bright display.
Versatility that you get out of using the rear cameras as your front-facing cameras in landscape or in portrait. Now you can frame yourself up using your good cameras.
Obviously impressive. [...] But you have to admit that's pretty cool. It's pretty innovative.

The phone also boasts leading-edge performance from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip and an exceptional 7,500 mAh battery with ultra-fast charging capabilities. Despite being a China-only model, its robust specifications, including an IP68 rating and pre-installed screen protectors, lead to a strong desire for its wider availability, as it surpasses many currently available flagships.
This back screen really has me taking more selfies than I ever thought I would in my life, just because of how good the cameras are, and the fact that they've done it all with basically no drawbacks
it's lighter than the Pro iPhone. It's still IP68. You can dunk the whole thing underwater if you want to. And it even has a screen protector pre-installed on both the front and the back screen
I hope we can get some more phones like this over in these parts 'cause it's kind of embarrassing what it does next to the stuff that we have available.

Xiaomi 17 Pro Max - Yes it's an iPhone Clone, but What Else does it Offer?

Pros

  • Exceptional 7500 mAh battery capacity
  • Extremely fast 100W wired and wireless charging
  • Excellent main AMOLED display with high brightness and dynamic refresh rate
  • Innovative and capable 120Hz LTPO secondary rear screen
  • Primary and telephoto cameras deliver detailed images with good dynamic range

Cons

  • Ultrawide camera is not very wide and has reduced quality
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC offers only a moderate performance upgrade
  • Phone can run hot, reaching temperatures of 50°C at times
  • Questionable value proposition at its $850 starting price
  • Not considered the top choice for users prioritizing gaming
The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max impresses with its innovative secondary screen, exceptional 7500 mAh battery, and advanced 100W wired and wireless charging capabilities. Its excellent AMOLED main display and promising thermal management for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC are also notable strengths. However, the camera experience is a mixed bag due to a downgraded ultrawide lens, and the phone's $850 starting price raises concerns about its long-term value against expected cheaper competitors. Despite some drawbacks, the phone offers a compelling package, particularly in battery technology and display innovation.
Personally, I really love the fact that Xiaomi has taken a risk with that second screen. [...] which is why I really like what Xiaomi's done here.
And I'm pretty sure you're going to be seeing more 8 Elite Gen 5 phones launching cheaper.
