Motorola RAZR Fold - that is, a foldable for... 11,500 PLN 🤯 - review, Mobzilla ep. 612

Pros

  • Excellent PLED LTPO screens with high brightness.
  • Very good photo quality from the main cameras.
  • Exceptional photo quality from the ultra-wide-angle camera.
  • Advanced and efficiently functioning AI features.
  • Effective fast wired and wireless charging.

Cons

  • Significantly lower processor performance than competitors.
  • The device heats up considerably, especially after folding.
  • Absurdly high price, significantly more expensive than rivals.
  • Stereo speakers perform averagely and distort sound at higher volumes.
  • Visible crease on the internal screen.

The Motorola RAZR Fold is Motorola's first foldable smartphone, combining many successful elements with significant shortcomings. It is praised for its excellent PLED LTPO screens, very good cameras, and efficiently functioning AI features. However, the device disappoints with its Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, offering lower performance than competitors, and heating issues.

The biggest obstacle, however, is the absurdly high price, which leads the reviewer to categorically advise against purchasing this model at the moment. They suggest that only a significant price drop could make this smartphone worth considering, despite its design and performance flaws.

However, the Razr Fold is priced like butter during a pandemic. The standard version costs PLN 100,000 without a zloty, and the FIFA one costs 11,500. Let me remind you, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 costs around 7,500, and at times much less on sale.
So, do I recommend the device here and now at this price? Quite the opposite, but if it quickly and significantly drops in price, as Motorolas tend to do, it's quite possible I'll recommend it without hesitation, because even though it's thick, too heavy, and lacks a flagship processor, the Motorola RAZR Fold has more advantages than disadvantages.

Motorola Razr Fold Review: Edge Case

Pros

  • Exceptional battery endurance.
  • Supports fast wireless charging up to 50 watts.
  • Best Motorola camera performance to date, especially in night shots.
  • Excellent screen brightness and a manageable crease.
  • Premium general performance with strong reception and speaker quality.

Cons

  • Inconsistent video performance and some exposure issues in bright light.
  • Numerous software bugs and a sluggish AI button.
  • Poor track record for timely software updates.
  • No integrated silo for the optional Moto Pen Ultra, which is sold separately.
  • Lacks MagSafe compatibility.

The Motorola Razr Fold is an impressive foldable smartphone, significantly improving Motorola's camera performance and offering exceptional battery life that is difficult to drain in a single day. Its screens provide excellent brightness, and the inner display features a manageable crease that is shallower than some competitors.

However, the device is plagued by numerous software bugs, a sluggish AI button, and a poor track record for timely updates, which detracts from the user experience. Additionally, the optional Moto Pen Ultra lacks an integrated storage silo, making it less convenient, and the phone's late release timing means it faces rapidly evolving competition.

I found the battery basically impossible to kill in a single day. Even though the Motorola Razr Fold's hotspot has supplied my entire internet connection for every visit to the office over the past 12 days. It's an absolute endurance powerhouse and it charges quickly to boot even though no charger comes in the box.
This is without question the best Motorola camera I've ever used.
If I sound measured in my praise, it's because I can't shake the notion that this would have been a truly great contender if only it had come to the fight earlier.

Motorola Razr Fold – Should Samsung Be Worried?

Pros

  • Flagship-grade camera system with excellent low-light and dynamic range performance.
  • Large 6,000 mAh battery with extremely fast 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.
  • Superior sustained performance for long gaming sessions with Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.
  • Bright, sharp, and larger 165Hz cover screen and a minimal-crease 2K inner display.
  • Good value for money, including a one-time free screen replacement.

Cons

  • Slightly lower initial burst GPU performance compared to some competing flagships.
  • External selfie camera resolution is limited to 1080p.
  • Uses Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 instead of the higher-tier 8 Elite Gen 5.

The Motorola Razr Fold is presented as a remarkably polished and complete foldable, especially for a first-generation device. It excels with a flagship-grade camera system that performs well in challenging conditions and a robust 6,000 mAh battery supporting extremely fast charging speeds.

Its Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor ensures superior sustained performance for extended use, complementing bright, sharp, and larger cover and inner displays with a notably minimal crease. The device also offers good value, including a free screen replacement within the first year, making it one of the most comprehensive foldable options available.

And honestly, this feels less like Motorola's first foldable and more like their take on fixing what's wrong with foldables.
For a first generation foldable, the Razr Fold feels ridiculously polished.
And honestly, it feels like one of the most complete foldables on the market today.

Motorola Razr Fold: The FIRST of its kind! | REVIEW

Pros

  • Battery: Exceptionally long battery life on a single charge.
  • Battery: Very fast wired and wireless charging.
  • Screen: Bright pOLED displays with a less noticeable crease.
  • Performance: Long-term update support (7 years).
  • Performance: Clean Android experience with optimal processor performance.

Cons

  • Value: Very high initial price of the device.
  • Camera: Camera offers only solid photo quality.
  • Performance: Lack of Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
  • Camera: Protruding camera bump.

The Motorola Razr Fold is objectively a good smartphone with several strong points and some drawbacks. The reviewer particularly praises the exceptionally long battery life, very fast charging, and excellent, bright pOLED displays where the crease is less noticeable than on competitors.

The device offers 7 years of update support and runs on a capable Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, which in daily use is comparable to more powerful variants. However, at this price point, expectations are higher, and the camera is rated as merely solid, not outstanding.

The main drawback is the very high initial price, although it's suggested that this may decrease over time. Overall, it's an interesting foldable smartphone, especially for those who value battery, screen, and long software support, and are willing to accept the price or wait for it to drop.

However, the displays are amazing, the battery is amazing, the amount of gigabytes and RAM is great, the build quality is great. But let's not kid ourselves, at this price, everything here should be more than great.
A nice phone to see in a review like this, to look at it, and obviously over time, the prices of these devices will fall, and then if someone likes this type of device, it's cool, especially since the creases are becoming less noticeable.

Motorola Razr Fold: Reality check

Pros

  • Massive 6,000mAh battery capacity.
  • Very fast 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.
  • Stunning and exceptionally bright 8.1-inch 2K inner OLED display.
  • Impressive 50MP triple rear camera system.
  • More internal storage for a lower price than a direct competitor.

Cons

  • Uses a slightly weaker Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor instead of the Elite version.
  • Only offers 3 years of Android upgrades.
  • Only offers 5 years of security patches.
The Motorola Razr Fold presents a compelling option for US consumers seeking a book-style foldable, offering significant hardware advantages. It features an exceptionally bright 8.1-inch 2K inner OLED display and a massive 6,000mAh battery with blazing-fast charging speeds. While powered by a slightly less premium Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor and offering shorter software support compared to competitors, its competitive pricing for a generous storage configuration makes it a strong contender.
But if you live in the US and are in the market right now for a new foldable phone in this style, the Razr Fold is certainly worth a look.
